Practicing with AI Season 2: AI in Healthcare | Hippo

Written by Vicky Pittman, PA-C and Rob Taves, VP of Engineering | Nov 2, 2026, 11:11:39 PM

Since the beginning of the year, artificial intelligence (AI) models have moved beyond answering questions. With agentic AI, AI agents can now carry out multi-step tasks, often independently. Generative AI tools have also made “vibe coding” possible, letting people who have never written a line of code build software. But the conversation around AI hasn't been all positive. Worries about jobs persist, and they’ve been joined by concerns about data centers, AI ethics, and pushback on “AI slop.” And for all the progress, one problem hasn’t gone away: models still make things up.

For AI in healthcare, these shifts are all happening at once: promising new tools, the need for safety and accuracy, and ongoing questions about what AI adoption means for the workforce and the future of the field.

So Practicing with AI is back. AI can do a lot. The harder question is when it belongs in patient care. After building the foundation in Season 1, Vicky and Rob look at where these tools can genuinely help, where they need closer scrutiny, and what they could mean for patients and the people who care for them.

Here's a look at what's coming:

  • The healthcare workforce. How AI is affecting the people who deliver care, with a close look at the nursing profession.

  • Radiology. A field where AI integration is already well underway, and what other specialties can learn from it.

  • AI in the operating room. Vicky and Rob talk with a general surgeon and researcher about where AI might show up in surgery, and what that could mean for the future of the field.

  • The patient experience. How patients are encountering these technologies firsthand, and what that means for the care they receive.

Early adopter, skeptic, or still making up your mind? Season 2 is for anyone curious about how AI is impacting medicine. Listen to Practicing with AI on Apple, Spotify or the Hippo platform.
