How We Make Medical Education, Hippo-Style

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at a medical education company? Hippo Education makes video, audio, and written medical education, and we make a lot of it! If you wonder what makes us different, the answer, in short, is: practicing clinicians, peer review, and a crazy fun team.

But let’s start at the beginning.

How We Design a Product

We make a product because you – the learner, our audience -- need and want it. We know this because we are clinicians, too! Our large in-house clinical education team includes physicians, PAs (physician assistants), and nurse practitioners. We start by identifying a need – for example, on-the-go, practical medical education that you can listen to literally anywhere that fulfills your CME (continuing medical education) or CE (continuing education) requirements.

Our monthly podcasts Primary Care RAP, Peds RAP, Urgent Care RAP, and ERcast provide entertaining CME that you can get during your morning jog or your commute. Or folding laundry. Or making dinner. Any time, any place!

Our board review courses are there because we had to pass certification exams, too. We have both video (EM Board Review and Peds Foundations) as well as written (PANRE-LA Reference Guide and MOCA-Peds eBook) formats. We’re right there with you, studying, cramming, or answering quarterly questions.

How We Make the Content

When making the content for our products, we start with research. A lot of research. We are the world’s biggest fans of evidence-based medicine and best friends with PubMed. We take the issue, research the heck out of it, and cite every fact.

Then we talk to our experts. We want the best! So we find them, then pester them with all the burning questions we have built up, because we all know that real-life experience is everything in medicine, and an expert’s brain is always better than a book. We record these interviews on audio or video so that you can get the type of learning that works best for you.

Along the way, the content is peer-reviewed over and over again. We – actual, real-life, practicing clinicians – double and triple-check this material. Because we are all human, and peer review is everything. Because accuracy is critical in medicine. Because we are proud of our products, and stand behind them every step of the way.

Once we’re satisfied with the content, these podcasts or videos are edited and produced by our fantastic production team. They do all the fancy stuff while we ensure the facts are correct.

Final Product

After peer review, while our video and audio products are getting fancied up by production, we take care of all the other details that go with our products. Things like written assets that accompany our products – show notes, charts, graphics, etc. – and written assessments that allow you to check your knowledge. And things like accrediting our products with ACCME (Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education) so that we can make sure you can earn the maximum credits possible for the learning you do with us.

It Takes a Team

Hippo Education has written, audio, and video editors-in-chief. We have medical editors galore. We have CME experts, video editors, audio engineers, and design gurus. We have a team of people who work together to create the world’s best medical education. It should be fun, engaging, and a great fit for you and your real-life needs.

What has your experience been with Hippo Education? We’re always open to feedback and we love to hear from our audience, so if you have a comment or question, please reach out to support@hippoeducation.com!
